When you say 'bonkers,' what exactly happened? Same symptoms, or other weird stuff too?

Identical! Complete wiper shutdown. In my case, a dodgy connection was the problem. Given the error, I'd bet you have the same. I got it working again after a quick workshop repair. If you don't want to remove parts yourself, take it to a workshop. Mine was only about 95€.

Thanks for the advice! I found a bad connection. After replacing it, the wipers are working perfectly now.

Sounds familiar! My old Volvo V70 had wipers go completely bonkers! Did you check the steering column switches, cruise control, wiper motor and rain sensor? If those cables look good, maybe it's time to give up and...
