Explorer Brake Light Switch Issue

I'm having a weird issue with my 2021 Ford Explorer Hybrid. It has about 53050 km on it. Recently, I started getting an error message on the infotainment system, and I noticed my brake lights weren't working. Hooked it up to a scanner, and it's throwing a code related to the brake light switch. I've checked the bulbs, and they're fine. Is it possible I accidentally messed something up while cleaning around the brake pedal? Has anyone else experienced this? Seems like a silly problem.

Summary of the thread

The issue with the 2021 Ford Explorer Hybrid involved an error message and non-functioning brake lights, traced to a brake light switch code. The problem likely arose from accidentally dislodging the brake light switch connector while cleaning around the brake pedal. The solution was to simply reconnect the loose connector, resolving the error message and restoring brake light functionality.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Could be a few things. A faulty brake light switch is definitely a possibility given the error code and symptoms. It could also be a wiring issue, but that's less likely if it happened after you were cleaning. User error is possible. Have you tried pressing the brake pedal harder or wiggling the switch connector? Sometimes it's just a bad connection. I assume your car is equipped with an automatic transmission, correct?

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, it's an automatic. I did try pressing the brake pedal a bit harder, but no luck. Where exactly is the switch connector located? Maybe I bumped something loose when I was vacuuming. Is it something I can easily check myself, or am I better off taking it to the workshop?

The brake light switch is usually located near the top of the brake pedal, behind the trim. You should be able to see a connector plugged into it. Before you start fiddling, make sure the car is off and the parking brake is engaged. Wiggling the wires might solve it, if the connector is just loose. But if the error comes back, or you're not comfortable working around the brake system, it's best to have a technician take a look. It's kind of like messing with the heart of your car's safety systems, so don't be too hasty.

Turns out, I somehow managed to dislodge the connector for the brake light switch when I was cleaning. I just plugged it back in, and everything is working fine now. The error message is gone, and the brake lights are back on. Thanks so much for the help; I appreciate it!
