When you say 'bad connection', do you mean corrosion or just loose? Where exactly is the control module located? Is it easy to access? I'm not super experienced with car electronics.

Could be either corrosion or just loose. I would check the plugs on the sensors first, give them a clean with some electrical contact cleaner. The control module is often behind the bumper or in the trunk, near the spare tire well. Honestly, chasing electrical gremlins can be a pain, especially without proper tools. If you're not comfortable, it might be best to get it checked out by a workshop. Could save you a lot of headache, and they can diagnose it properly.

I took it to a local mechanic and they confirmed it was a corroded connector to one of the parking sensors. They cleaned it up and replaced the connector for about 95€. Everything's working again!

I had a similar issue on my Explorer. The parking assist uses ultrasonic and sometimes radar sensors in the bumpers. It could be a faulty sensor, but more likely a bad connection. Have you checked the wiring and plugs to the sensors? Also, if your Explorer has blind spot sensors, they might be related, as they sometimes share a control module.
