Failing A/C in CrosslandX, Cold Air Mystery Solved?

Hey there! Need some advice about my 2022 Vauxhall CrosslandX (petrol, 49k km). My A/C's been acting up lately, barely any cold air coming through and sometimes it won't even kick in at all. I suspect it might be the heat exchanger temp sensor, but after a bad experience with my previous mechanic, I'm a bit hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar A/C issues on their Crossland? Would love to hear about your experiences and maybe get some recommendations for reliable mechanics who know their way around Vauxhall A/C systems. Thanks in advance!

Hey! I had a similar issue with my 2019 Vauxhall Grandland X last summer. The symptoms were pretty much identical, inconsistent cooling and the A/C would stop working out of nowhere. Took it to the dealership and turned out it was actually the A/C control unit that was faulty, not the temp sensor. They had to replace the entire control module because the electronic components were fried. It was quite a serious job because they had to remove parts of the dashboard to access the control unit. The system needed to be reprogrammed after installation too. My car was in the shop for about two days, but it's been working perfectly since then. I'd suggest going to a Vauxhall specialist or dealership for this one. These newer models have pretty complex climate control systems, and you'll want someone who knows the specific quirks of Vauxhall's setup. Better to get it done right the first time than have more problems down the road.

Hi, thanks for sharing your experience! It really helps as I'm facing pretty much the exact same thing. Good to know it was the control unit in your case, I was convinced it was the temp sensor. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole job? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the repair, or have you noticed any other A/C quirks pop up? Cheers!

Hey again! Happy to help update you on this. Yeah, I ended up paying €980 for the whole job, quite a chunk of change, but honestly worth every penny. After they checked it out, they actually found that the heat exchanger temperature sensor error I initially had was sorted, but the main issue was indeed that faulty A/C control unit that needed replacing. I'm really glad I went with the dealership because it's been working like a dream since then, coming up on almost a year now with zero issues. The A/C blows nice and cold, no more unusual shutoffs, and the temperature control is spot-on. It's such a relief not having to mess with it anymore, especially during those scorching summer days! Just a heads up, if you do get it fixed, make sure they do a full system diagnostic. These modern Vauxhalls can be pretty tricky with their climate control systems, but once they're sorted properly, they're really reliable. Let me know how you get on with yours!

Thanks a lot for all the detailed info! Just wanted to give you an update, I took your advice and went to the Vauxhall dealership yesterday. You won't believe it, but they found the exact same issue with the control unit! Ended up costing me about €950, pretty close to what you paid. The funny thing is, while they were at it, they found a small refrigerant leak too. Fixed both problems and now my A/C's working better than ever. The whole thing took about a day and a half, they even gave me a courtesy car while mine was in the shop. Really glad I asked here first instead of going to my usual mechanic. Would've probably ended up paying twice to get it fixed properly. Definitely learned my lesson about going to specialists for these newer models. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction! Cheers!
