Faulty A1 Headlight Switch Triggers Random Light Issues

Last service done at 30000km. The tail lights started acting up too since yesterday, and yes, moving the light switch makes the flickering worse. Getting error code P0677 specifically. The dashboard stays normal though. Looking at all the troubleshooting steps mentioned, I checked the fuse box connections already but found no obvious issues. Makes sense about the wiring connector being the potential culprit. The electrical problem seems very similar to what you described. Will definitely get it checked by a professional, especially since this could become a safety issue with the unusual light behavior. The intermittent nature of these automotive switch problems makes it particularly concerning.

Thanks for those additional details. The P0677 code and symptoms match exactly what I dealt with on my A3. Since your tail lights are now involved and manipulating the car switch causes more flickering, it really points to that main wiring connector issue I experienced. The fact that your dashboard lights remain stable is actually a good sign, suggests the problem is isolated to the exterior lighting circuit rather than a broader electrical issue. In my case, the faulty connection was specifically where the main switch assembly connects to the vehicle wiring harness. With your mileage and symptoms being so similar, recommend getting it checked soon since my issue progressed from occasional flickering to complete lighting failure within about 2 weeks. The repair should be straightforward, my car was back same day. Labor costs might vary but parts were relatively inexpensive since it just needed a new connector and some rewiring. Keep us posted on what they find. Would be interesting to see if its the same root cause given how closely the symptoms match.

Thanks for all the feedback. After hearing about your similar experience with the wiring connector, I definitely feel more confident about what might be wrong. The car lighting issues have gotten more frequent just in the last 24 hours, exactly like you described with your A3. I checked the dimmer switch again this morning and now it barely responds at all. The electrical problem seems to be getting worse faster than I expected. Given how the tail lights are now affected and the car switch manipulation makes everything flicker more intensely, I'm convinced it's the same connector issue you dealt with. I've booked it in for tomorrow morning at a local workshop. Will update the thread once they diagnose the exact problem. Really appreciate the detailed explanation about the wiring harness connection, helps me understand what they might need to fix. At least I know it's likely not a major electrical system overhaul and should be a relatively quick repair like in your case.

Had a similar issue with my 2019 Audi A3 last year. Have some experience working on basic car electrics but this one needed professional help. The dashboard lights and headlights would out of nowhere activate, even with the dimmer switch in the off position. After some basic checks of the fuse box that didnt solve anything, I took it to a workshop. Turned out the main headlight switch wiring connector had developed a loose connection, causing intermittent electrical issues. The repair involved replacing the damaged connector and rewiring that section. Total cost was 95 Euro including parts and labor. Before you head to a workshop, could you share: Are your tail lights also affected or just the headlights? Does adjusting the dimmer switch position have any effect? Have you noticed any other electrical issues like flickering dashboard lights? Which error codes is your car storing? These details would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced. The fix was fairly straightforward once they identified the exact connection problem.
