Faulty ABS Sensor Disrupts Amarok Braking Safety

Looking for help with persistent ABS issues on my 2021 Amarok. The dashboard warning light keeps coming on and traction feels off, especially during braking. The ABS system seems to fail intermittently. My odometer shows 71997km and its running on a gasoline engine. My previous mechanic couldnt properly fix it and suggested a speed sensor fault. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms? Would be great to hear about reliable repair solutions and what the actual issue might be.

Had similar symptoms on my 2018 VW Atlas with the 3.6L gasoline engine. The intermittent ABS malfunction turned out to be more serious than initially suspected. After diagnostic testing, the issue was traced to a defective ECM control unit, not just a speed sensor. The speedometer would occasionally show incorrect readings, and the ABS would engage out of nowhere during normal braking. The repair required complete replacement of the ABS control module since reprogramming attempts failed. The work involved removing the old unit, installing a new one, and performing a complete system calibration. These symptoms typically start subtle but can worsen quickly, affecting overall vehicle safety. The repair is definitely not a DIY job since it requires specialized diagnostic equipment to properly integrate the new module with other vehicle systems. From your description, the behavior matches what I experienced, especially the traction issues during braking. Would strongly recommend getting it checked at a certified workshop that can perform proper diagnostic testing of the entire ABS system, not just the speed sensors.

Thanks for sharing your ABS module experience. Our situations sound really similar, the dashboard warning and unpredictable ABS behavior match what I went through. Since speed sensors were initially suspected in my case too, Im curious how much the complete repair cost in your situation. Did you experience any other transmission or brake-related malfunctions afterwards? My mechanic mentioned potential connection to other systems, so Id like to know if everything stayed fixed after the module replacement.

Thanks for asking about the repair outcome. The complete fix of the input speed signal fault through the ABS control unit replacement worked perfectly, no issues since then. The transmission and brake systems are now functioning as they should, with no warning lights or erratic behavior. The total repair came to 1000€, which covered the control unit, programming, and labor. The speedometer now shows accurate readings and the ABS engages only when actually needed. Unlike the previous attempts with speed sensor checks, addressing the control unit itself solved the root cause. Definitely feel more confident in the braking performance now. The investment was worth it for the safety aspect alone. The ABS system has been completely stable for several months of regular driving. The key was finding a shop with proper diagnostic capabilities to identify the control unit as the real culprit rather than just the sensors. Their systematic approach to testing the entire ABS network made the difference.

After getting fed up with the intermittent ABS issues, I took my Amarok to a certified workshop last week. Just like your case, their diagnostic testing revealed the root cause was the ABS control module, not just faulty speed sensors. The dashboard warnings were actually pointing to a deeper system malfunction. The repair bill came to 1200€, bit more than yours but included a full system calibration. The mechanic explained how the faulty module was causing incorrect input signals, leading to those unusual ABS activations during normal braking. Been driving for a few days now and the difference is clear. No more warning lights, the transmission shifts smoothly, and most importantly, the braking feels solid and predictable again. Really glad I went for the complete fix instead of just replacing sensors. The workshop also provided a 12-month warranty on the repair, which gives extra peace of mind. Appreciate your detailed feedback, it helped confirm I was dealing with similar symptoms and needed a proper diagnostic approach rather than quick fixes.
