Faulty Tiguan ABS Causing Dangerous Traction Issues

Looking for advice, my ABS keeps acting up in my 2022 Tiguan diesel (85000km). The ABS light stays on and the system doesnt work properly, plus having traction issues. The speedometer still works fine but Im worried the speed sensor might be faulty. Had some trust issues with my previous mechanic and wondering if anyone here has dealt with similar symptoms? Really want to make sure the diagnostic is done right this time before spending money on repairs.

Summary of the thread

The conversation revolves around a 2022 Tiguan experiencing ABS malfunctions and traction issues, with the ABS light persistently on. The problem is suspected to be linked to faulty wheel speed sensors, which can cause incorrect input to the ABS module, affecting traction control but not the speedometer. A similar issue was resolved by replacing the ABS module, recalibrating sensors, and reprogramming the system, emphasizing the need for specialized diagnostic equipment and professional repair to ensure safety and proper functionality.

Had the same symptoms on my 2019 T-Roc 2.0 TDI last winter. The ECM was getting incorrect input from one of the wheel speed sensors, triggering both ABS and traction control warnings on the dashboard. Initial scan revealed Affected Control Unit errors, pointing to a faulty ABS module. The speedometer worked because it uses a separate sensor system than the ABS. The odometer also kept working normally. The repair required: Complete ABS module replacement, Sensor calibration, System reprogramming This was a serious repair requiring specialized diagnostic equipment. Not something that can be fixed with basic tools or shortcuts. The ABS module is a critical safety component controlling both braking and stability systems. The symptoms you describe match exactly what I experienced, persistent ABS light, traction issues, but functioning speedometer. Would strongly recommend having this checked at a certified shop with proper diagnostic capabilities since it affects core safety systems.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Was dealing with very similar issues on my VW Tiguan. Had that annoying ABS light stuck on the dashboard too, and the transmission seemed confused at times. Really helpful to know about the wheel speed sensor input being the root cause. Makes sense why the speedometer kept working while the ABS was acting up. Was your repair holding up well since then? And if you dont mind sharing, what was the final cost for the diagnostic and fix? Just trying to budget properly before heading to the shop.

After my last post, I took my T-Roc to a certified shop for the Speed signal fault malfunction. The repair has been perfect with no ABS warnings on the dashboard since then. The diagnostic confirmed my initial suspicion about the control unit being the core issue. Total cost came to 1000€, which included the new ABS module, programming, and complete system calibration. While it wasnt cheap, having a properly functioning ABS system is crucial for safety, especially during emergency braking situations. Been driving for 6 months now with zero issues. The ABS, traction control, and stability systems are all working exactly as they should. The odometer and speedometer continue functioning normally too. If your symptoms match what I experienced, investing in proper repairs from a qualified shop will likely solve the problem completely. Just make sure they use proper diagnostic equipment to verify the exact cause.

Thanks for the input. Finally got my Tiguan sorted out! Took it to a certified shop that specializes in transmission and ABS systems. Their diagnostic equipment picked up multiple sensor faults in the ABS module. The technician showed me how the signals from the wheel sensors were inconsistent, explaining why my speedometer worked but the ABS kept acting up. The full repair ended up costing 950€, pretty close to what others mentioned. They replaced the ABS module and recalibrated all systems. The dashboard is now clear of warning lights and the vehicle handles perfectly, especially in wet conditions. Really glad I didnt try any quick fixes or go to my old mechanic. Having proper diagnostic work done first saved me from possibly replacing parts unnecessarily. After 2 weeks of driving, everything is working exactly as it should.
