Fiat 124 Injection Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Fiat 124 with a gasoline engine and high mileage is experiencing issues such as increased fuel consumption, reduced engine power, stalling at idle, and smoke during acceleration, suggesting a potential fault in the injection system. The problem may be due to a defective cable or plug connection. A similar issue was resolved by checking the connectors and wiring harness for corrosion or damage, leading to the discovery of a corroded connector. After taking the car to a workshop, a defective plug connection was identified and repaired, resolving the issue.

Thanks for the tip! You mentioned a bad connection. Was it difficult to diagnose exactly where the problem was located? What did you do in the end to solve the issue?

It was a pain to pinpoint. The mechanic used a multimeter to check the continuity of each wire and connector in the system. Eventually, they found a corroded connector causing intermittent disruptions. Given the potential complexity, it's probably best to get it checked by a workshop.

Thanks a lot for the information! Following your advice, I took it to a workshop, and they found a defective plug connection. Repair cost was 95€. Runs like new now!

That sounds frustrating! I had similar symptoms with my old Volvo V70 – higher fuel consumption and rough idling. Turned out to be a bad connection in the fuel injection system. Have you checked the connectors and wiring harness for any signs of corrosion or damage?
