Fiat 124 Mixture Preparation Error
Summary of the thread
A 2020 Fiat 124 Spider is experiencing a mixture preparation error, leading to reduced engine power, rough running, jerking during acceleration, and stalling at idle. The initial suspicion is a faulty injection valve or injector. Suggestions include checking the air-fuel ratio, oxygen sensor, mass airflow sensor, catalytic converter, and spark plugs, as these components can affect the air-fuel mixture. Ultimately, the issue is confirmed to be a bad injector, which is repaired at a cost of 515€.

Can you explain how the catalytic converter or spark plugs could cause these symptoms? I'm trying to understand how they'd cause the mixture preparation error.

A failing catalytic converter can skew the oxygen sensor readings, which messes with the ECU's fuel trim. Fouled plugs can cause incomplete combustion, which also changes the air-fuel mixture. Get it diagnosed properly; fuel injection issues can be complex.

Thanks for explaining how the catalytic converter and spark plugs affect the air-fuel mixture. That was helpful. Turns out it was a bad injector, like I thought. Total repair was 515€.

Check the air-fuel ratio. A bad oxygen sensor or mass airflow sensor could cause that. Check the catalytic converter and spark plugs too.
