Fiat 124 Overheating and Stored Error
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Fiat 124 owner experienced engine overheating and a stored error at 129,126 km, suspecting a bypass valve malfunction. Another owner suggested checking for vacuum leaks, which could cause both issues by affecting the air/fuel mixture. Ultimately, the problem was traced to a faulty sensor causing the bypass valve error and subsequent overheating, resolved under warranty.

Vacuum leaks, interesting. I hadn't considered that specifically. Would a leak typically cause both the stored error and the overheating simultaneously, or could these be separate?

It's plausible that a significant vacuum leak could cause both. The engine would be running lean, which can trigger errors related to air/fuel mixture and, under sustained load, potentially lead to overheating. However, to pinpoint the root cause I suggest a workshop visit. They will have the right tools.

Thanks for the insight. Turns out it was a faulty sensor causing the bypass valve error, triggering the overheating as a knock-on effect. Repair cost was 0€ under warranty. I appreciate the suggestion about vacuum leaks; good to keep in mind for future reference.

I also own a 124, though I haven't had the overheating issue specifically. A stored error points to something else triggering the bypass valve issue. Have you checked for any vacuum leaks in the air intake system? Those can wreak havoc and throw off all sorts of readings.
