Fiat 124 Turbo Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Fiat 124 with a gasoline engine was experiencing reduced power, a check engine light, poor acceleration response, and high fuel consumption. The suspected issue was with the turbo system. Suggestions included checking for vacuum leaks, inspecting the boost solenoid or bypass valve, and examining the pressure sensor. The problem was identified as a defective vacuum switching valve, which was replaced, resolving the issue.

Okay, thanks! When you say 'boost solenoid', is that the same as a vacuum switching valve? I've read about that, and it seems like it could be the problem. And where is the pressure sensor located?

Yes, the boost solenoid and vacuum switching valve are often the same thing or closely related different terms for the component controlling boost. It directs vacuum to control the turbocharger's wastegate or bypass valve. The pressure sensor is usually on the intake manifold or the charge pipes between the turbo and the throttle body. Given the symptoms and your mileage (227457 km), it might be best to get it checked by a workshop. It sounds like the valve is not working properly.

You nailed it! It was a defective vacuum switching valve. The workshop confirmed it. New valve and labour cost 140€. Runs great now! Thanks for the help!

Reduced power and a check engine light on a turbocharged car could mean a few things. First, check for vacuum leaks in the hoses around the turbo and intake. A leak will cause a pressure drop. Also, check the boost solenoid or bypass valve. A faulty boost solenoid can prevent the turbo from building pressure correctly, and a bad bypass valve will vent the pressure. It is also worth checking the pressure sensor.
