Fiat 500 Diesel Poor Starting Stalling
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Fiat 500 diesel with 195,000 km is experiencing poor starting, stalling, and a check engine light. The issue is suspected to be related to the camshaft sensor, possibly due to a faulty encoder wheel. Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the crankshaft sensor yet, but that's a good shout. I don't have a code reader myself. Was it definitely the camshaft sensor in your case then?

Yeah, pretty sure it was the camshaft position sensor giving me grief. Turned out the encoder wheel on the camshaft was faulty, messing everything up. Honestly, it's probably best to get it checked out at a workshop. They'll have the proper diagnostics tools to pinpoint the issue.

Thanks a lot for your help! I took it to a local garage, and you were spot on. It was indeed the camshaft sensor, or rather the encoder wheel as you mentioned. The whole thing cost me 695€ to get sorted, but at least it's running smoothly again now!

I had similar issues with my 500. Rough starts, stalling, the whole shebang. Did you check the crankshaft sensor as well? It could be related. Is the engine control unit throwing any specific codes?
