Fiat 500 rear window heating issue

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2016 Fiat 500, gasoline engine. The rear window heating isn't working at all! I get an error stored, and the windshield heating seems weaker than usual too. I've checked the fuses, but nothing seems obviously blown. The car has 199489 km on it. Any ideas? Could it be something simple before I take it in? Thinking it might be the window heater or maybe something with the auto defrost function?

Summary of the thread

A 2016 Fiat 500 owner experienced an issue with the rear window heating not functioning and an error being stored, with the windshield heating also appearing weaker. Initial checks of the fuses showed no obvious problems. A suggestion was made to check the battery voltage, as a weak battery could cause electrical issues and errors. Upon taking the car to a workshop, it was discovered that the battery was heavily discharged and defective, leading to its replacement, which resolved the heating issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Wow, that sounds familiar! I had a similar problem with my old Peugeot 208. The thermal window just gave up the ghost. Does your battery seem okay? Mine was heavily discharged, and that was causing all sorts of weird electrical gremlins. Have you checked the voltage? It might be the culprit.

Hmm, that's interesting! I haven't specifically checked the battery voltage, but the car starts fine. Would a weak battery really cause just the rear window heater to fail and throw an error? It seems kind of specific. How did you figure out it was your battery?

Yeah, it's bizarre, I know! My Peugeot was starting fine too, but the battery was definitely on its way out. Apparently, low voltage can mess with the control modules and cause them to throw errors and disable certain features like the window demister. Honestly, I’d get it checked by a workshop. They can properly test the battery and see if it's the problem. Saved me a ton of headaches!

Okay, thanks for the advice! I took it to a workshop as you suggested. Turns out the battery was indeed heavily discharged and defective! They replaced it, cleared the error codes, and the rear window heater is working perfectly again. Cost me 290€, but at least it's fixed. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
