Fiat Albea Camshaft Sensor Problems
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Fiat Albea diesel was experiencing starting difficulties, stalling at idle, and an illuminated check engine light. These issues were suspected to be caused by a defective camshaft sensor, which can affect ignition timing and fuel injection. The problem was confirmed by a mechanic, who found a damaged encoder wheel affecting the sensor, and the issue was resolved with a repair.

I don't have a scanner. If the sensor is bad, what else could be affected? I was reading something about the encoder wheel on the camshafts.

Yeah, the encoder wheel being damaged would definitely cause issues for the sensor. You're looking at potential problems with the engine control unit not knowing the exact position of the camshaft. Really you need to see what codes are stored, but I would suggest taking it to a workshop to get a proper diagnosis.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a mechanic, and you were right. It was the camshaft sensor. The encoder wheel was damaged. Repair cost was 695€, but at least it's fixed now.

Could be a few things, but the camshaft sensor is a possibility given those symptoms. Does the engine seem to be misfiring? Have you checked for any fault codes using an OBD2 scanner? A bad camshaft position sensor can definitely mess with ignition timing and fuel injection.
