Fiat Bravo Transmission Problems
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Fiat Bravo diesel is experiencing transmission issues, including slipping, grinding noises, slow paddle shifter response, and frequent activation of emergency mode. The problem is suspected to be related to a defective transmission control unit (TCU). A similar case confirmed that the TCU was the cause, and a diagnostic tool at a reputable shop is recommended for accurate identification and resolution. The issue was resolved by replacing the TCU, costing 1000€.

Thanks for the reply. Can you elaborate on the error codes you were getting? I suspect a similar issue. Also, did the emergency mode come up?

Emergency mode was kicking in all the time, proper pain. I don't remember the exact code now, but it was definitely related to the TCU. Honestly, best bet is to get it hooked up to a proper diagnostic tool at a reputable shop. They'll pinpoint it for sure.

Thanks for the advice! It was indeed the transmission control unit. The repair set me back 1000€, but at least it's sorted now.

Sounds rough. I've got a Bravo too and had similar symptoms a while back. Slipping, grinding – the whole shebang. Was it throwing any specific error codes? For me it turned out to be the control module playing up. Seriously frustrating!
