Fiat Doblo preheating lamp stays on
Summary of the thread
A 2000 Fiat Doblo diesel had issues with the preheating lamp staying on, the check engine light being constantly illuminated, and excessive smoke during acceleration. The suspected cause was a faulty glow control unit. Upon inspection, it was found that loose and corroded cable and plug connections to the control unit were the problem. Cleaning and tightening these connections resolved the issue, eliminating the smoke and normalizing the warning lights.

Thanks for the tip! I haven't checked the cable and plug connections yet, but that will be my next step. Where exactly is the control unit located? And what should I be looking for – loose connections, corrosion?

Okay, so mine was doing similar, but it eventually started stalling completely. Honestly, I'm no expert, and fiddling with it only made it worse. I ended up taking it to a workshop. They found the same thing – a defective cable or plug. Cost me about 95€ to fix.

You were spot on! I checked the connections, and the plug was loose and corroded. Gave it a clean and tightened everything up. Seems to have fixed the issue. No more smoke, and the lights are behaving normally again. Thanks for your help!

Hey! I had something similar happen with my Doblo. The preheating light stayed on, and it felt like the engine was misfiring a bit, especially when cold. Did you check the cable and plug connections to the control unit? That was the culprit for me.
