Fiat Idea Anti-Theft Alarm Issue

My 2009 Fiat Idea with a gasoline engine is acting up. The anti-theft alarm is completely buggered. I'm getting an error stored in the memory, and the whole alarm system is non-functional. The dash isn't blinking like it should. I'm suspecting a central locking issue. Anyone seen anything like this before?

Summary of the thread

A 2009 Fiat Idea is experiencing issues with a non-functional anti-theft alarm, suspected to be linked to a central locking problem. A potential cause suggested is low battery voltage affecting the car's electronics. The solution involved a mechanic identifying a software coding issue in the system memory, which was causing excessive battery consumption, and resolving it with a software adjustment.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds frustrating. I had a similar issue with my old Saab, though. Different car, I know, but the symptoms were similar. Turned out to be a weird interaction with the security alarm and the electrical system. Did you check the battery?

Interesting! You think a low battery could mess with the anti-theft system? I'll check it out, but what exactly did you have to do with your Saab? I am interested in the specific solution you found.

Yeah, definitely check the battery. Low voltage can cause all sorts of weirdness with modern car electronics. With the Saab, honestly, after checking the battery and a few other minor things, I ended up taking it to a workshop. Better to have a professional look at it before you start replacing things randomly.

Thanks for the battery tip. I went to a local mechanic and, as it turns out, the alarm system was coded in a very stupid and weird way in the system memory and was activating optical locking constantly, that was consuming lot of battery. He fixed that with a software adjustment and costed me 45€. Now it is working.
