Fiat Idea Throttle Valve Defect
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Fiat Idea with a diesel engine exhibited higher fuel consumption and poor starting, suspected to be due to a defective throttle valve. Initial checks showed normal throttle position sensor readings, leading to consideration of the accelerator pedal module as the potential cause. A professional diagnosis confirmed the pedal module was defective, and it was repaired, resolving the issues.

Throttle position sensor readings were within expected ranges during my initial checks. Could a partially blocked air intake also mimic these symptoms? Or is it more likely the pedal module itself, given the starting issue?

A partially blocked air intake could contribute, but the pedal module seems a more probable cause given the starting difficulties alongside fuel inefficiency. Considering the readings are nominal, I would suggest a professional diagnosis. Best not to risk further damage.

Thanks for the input. I took it to a workshop. The accelerator pedal module was indeed defective. Repair cost was 205€. Now fixed.

I had a similar problem with my Idea. The symptoms you describe, particularly the fuel consumption increase, suggest the air intake might be compromised due to a faulty throttle body. Have you checked the throttle position sensor readings? A diagnostic scan should reveal if it's sending incorrect signals.
