Fiat Linea transmission problem

I'm experiencing a worrying issue with my 2012 Fiat Linea diesel. The transmission indicator light and check engine light are both illuminated. The automatic transmission is stuck in emergency mode and isn't shifting correctly – it slips, shifts uncleanly, and makes grinding noises. An error is stored. I suspect it's related to the radiator oil pressure. Could a defective cable or plug connection be the culprit?

Summary of the thread

A 2012 Fiat Linea diesel is experiencing transmission issues, with the transmission indicator and check engine lights illuminated, and the vehicle stuck in emergency mode. The problem is suspected to be related to the radiator oil pressure, possibly due to a defective cable or plug connection. It is advised to have the vehicle checked by a qualified workshop to diagnose the issue accurately, which ultimately revealed a defective plug connection to the radiator oil pressure sensor as the cause.

It certainly sounds like you have a problem. The symptoms you describe – transmission indicator light, check engine light, emergency mode, shifting problems, and grinding noises – all point to a potential issue with the transmission control system. The radiator oil pressure could be related, especially if the oil cooler is integrated with the radiator. A defective cable or plug connection is a plausible cause. Have you checked the coolant level recently? A low coolant level, caused by a coolant leak, might affect the oil cooler's performance.

I did check the coolant level, and it seemed fine. Where exactly would I find the cable or plug connection related to the radiator oil pressure, and is it something I can check myself without special tools?

I understand your concern. Without knowing the specific layout of your Fiat Linea's cooling system, I can only offer general guidance. The relevant cable or plug connection would likely be near the radiator or oil cooler, leading to a pressure sensor. However, attempting to diagnose or repair this yourself could be risky without proper knowledge and tools. Given the complexity of the automatic transmission and potential for further damage, I'd strongly advise taking it to a qualified workshop for diagnosis. They can properly check for fault codes and pinpoint the exact problem.

Understood. I took the car to the workshop, and you were right. The problem was indeed a defective plug connection to the radiator oil pressure sensor, as suspected. The repair cost 95€. Thanks again for your help!
