Fiat Novo Crankshaft Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
The conversation revolves around a 2015 Fiat Novo experiencing issues such as a check engine light, diminished power, sluggish response, and increased fuel consumption. These symptoms were linked to a potential problem with the crankshaft sensor, as suggested by a mechanic. A faulty crankshaft sensor can cause such issues due to its role in engine timing and fuel injection. After a diagnostic check at a workshop, the defective crankshaft sensor was replaced, resolving the problems.

The car has 181356 km on it. Misfiring, yes, I think that describes it adequately. Is it possible that a defective crankshaft sensor could cause all these symptoms?

Yes, a faulty crankshaft sensor can definitely cause those symptoms. The ECU relies on the signal from that sensor for proper timing and fuel injection. While it's possible to diagnose it yourself with the right equipment, given the symptoms and mileage, I'd recommend a diagnostic check at a workshop. They'll be able to pinpoint the issue and its root cause.

I took it to a workshop, and indeed, the crankshaft sensor was defective. The repair, including the sensor replacement and labor, came to 340€. The car runs perfectly now.

I own a Novo as well, and your symptoms sound eerily familiar. Does it feel like it's occasionally misfiring? I would first check the crankshaft and cam sensors and their connectors. It could also be related to the timing belt, though that's less likely unless it's overdue for replacement. What's the mileage?
