No software change or battery replacement preceded this issue. Is a software reset the only option here?

Software reset is likely, yes. With my Astra, a full control unit replacement was quoted, but a reset sorted it. It sounds like you need a professional to diagnose the issue. I would suggest a trustworthy workshop.

Thanks for the info. Will get the car checked out by a workshop. The final repair bill was 240€.

Sounds like ECU problems. I had similar issues with my Opel Astra, although it was a petrol model. Did the error occur after a software change or after battery replacement?
