Fiat Petra Intake Manifold Leak
Summary of the thread
A 2000 Fiat Petra diesel was experiencing jerking during acceleration, a weak engine, stalling at idle, rough running, and a strong exhaust smell, with the check engine light on. The suspected cause was an intake manifold leak. It was suggested to inspect the intake manifold gasket for leaks, particularly where it connects to the engine head. The issue was confirmed to be a leaking intake manifold, which was replaced, resolving the problem.

Thanks for the tip! Where exactly should I be looking on the intake manifold? I'm thinking it's a scorching issue, maybe around where it meets the engine block? Any other suggestions would be helpful.

Focus on the gasket where the intake manifold connects to the engine head. However, I recommend a visit to a workshop. It is likely to be the intake manifold, and it might require professional replacement.

You were spot on! It was the intake manifold, leaking like crazy from scorching. Got it replaced at the shop. Cost me 1180€, but the car runs like new again. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

I drive a Fiat Petra as well and experienced similar symptoms some time ago. I would suggest checking the intake manifold gasket for any signs of leakage. A leak there could definitely cause those issues.
