Fiat Petra Intake Manifold Leak

My 2000 Fiat Petra diesel is jerking when I accelerate. It's got almost 190k km on the clock, the check engine light is on, and the engine feels weak. It stalls at idle, runs rough, and the exhaust smells strong. I'm thinking it could be the intake manifold. Any ideas?
