Fiat Tipo Boost Pressure Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Fiat Tipo diesel is experiencing a boost pressure control fault, leading to a check engine light, reduced power, poor response, and increased fuel consumption. A defective vacuum switching valve is suspected as a potential cause. It is suggested to inspect vacuum lines for leaks, and if the issue persists, a workshop visit for a smoke test might be necessary. The vacuum switching valve was confirmed defective and replaced at a cost of 140€.

Thank you for your input. I haven't noticed any unusual noises, but I will listen more carefully. Where exactly was the vacuum leak located on your Astra? Was the bypass valve affected?

On my Astra, it was a cracked hose connected to the bypass valve, near the intake manifold. Honestly, it was difficult to pinpoint. I spent ages fiddling with it, but in the end, I just took it to a workshop. They found it in minutes with a smoke test. If you suspect a vacuum leak, that might be your best bet too.

I appreciate the advice. I will inspect the vacuum lines more closely. If I cannot locate the source, I will take it to a workshop. The repair cost 140€; the vacuum switching valve was indeed defective.

I had a similar issue with my 2014 Opel Astra, though it was a petrol engine. Check engine light, power loss – the whole shebang! It turned out to be a small vacuum leak somewhere around the intake manifold. Are you hearing any unusual whistling or hissing sounds? Perhaps compressor surge?
