Fiat Tipo Exhaust Temperature Sensor Issue

Alright, Fiat Tipo (2022 diesel) owners, I need some help! My check engine light is on, and the car feels sluggish. Fuel consumption has also gone up. I've got about 96667 km on the clock. Could it be a faulty exhaust temperature sensor?

Summary of the thread

A Fiat Tipo owner reported a check engine light, sluggish performance, and increased fuel consumption, suspecting a faulty exhaust temperature sensor. The symptoms and an error code pointed towards an issue with the exhaust system, possibly due to a leak causing incorrect sensor readings. It was suggested to check for leaks and temperature fluctuations, and to consult a workshop for accurate diagnosis. The workshop confirmed a faulty sensor caused by a small exhaust leak, replaced it, and resolved the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds like you're experiencing something similar to what happened to my Tipo. Check the exhaust system for any leaks. It could be throwing off the sensor readings. I'd check for temperature fluctuation too. Is the engine management system showing any error codes?

Temperature fluctuation? Where exactly should I be looking? And yes, there's an error code related to the exhaust temp sensor. Like I said, I suspect the exhaust temperature sensor, but is there anything else it could be?

Okay, the exhaust temperature sensor error code, combined with the symptoms you're describing, strongly suggests an issue within the exhaust system itself. A leak upstream of the sensor can definitely cause it to report incorrect readings. Considering the car’s age and mileage, plus a potential root cause like an exhaust leak, you're likely looking at physical sensor damage due to fluctuating temperature and exposure to elements – the sensor might be too corroded to work properly. I advise taking it to a reputable workshop; they'll be able to diagnose it accurately and replace the sensor if necessary.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on. It was indeed a faulty exhaust temperature sensor, likely caused by a small leak in the exhaust. They replaced the sensor, and everything is back to normal. Cost me about 265€.
