Fiat Toro transmission emergency mode
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Fiat Toro diesel experienced transmission issues, with the vehicle entering emergency mode, accompanied by slipping and grinding noises. The problem was linked to low coolant levels, which can affect the transmission cooler integrated with the radiator, potentially causing such symptoms. Additionally, a faulty cable was identified as a contributing factor. The issues were resolved by topping up the coolant and fixing the cable.

The fan does seem to be running more than usual, and I haven't checked the coolant level recently, will do that first thing in the morning. But could low coolant really mess with the transmission like that? It seems so unrelated.

Yes, low coolant or issues with the cooling system definitely can! The transmission cooler is often integrated with the radiator. If the system isn't getting proper cooling, it can trigger those symptoms and throw the transmission into emergency mode to protect itself. But given the grinding noises and error codes, it is likely also a cable or plug issue. You should check that too, otherwise, I'd recommend getting it checked out by a workshop to be sure.

I checked the coolant, and it was indeed low. Topped it up, and the transmission issues are gone. Turns out a faulty cable was the cause. Cost me 95€ to fix. Appreciate the help!

I had a similar issue with my Toro. Is your cooling fan running constantly, even when the engine isn't that hot? Check if the radiator coolant level is okay. A coolant leak can cause all sorts of weird issues with these electronic systems, throwing it into emergency mode. Have you noticed any overheating?
