Fiat Ulysee EGR Valve Symptoms
Summary of the thread
The 2009 Fiat Ulysee diesel exhibited symptoms such as a check engine light, reduced engine power, smoke on acceleration, rough running, increased fuel consumption, jerking, and a loud hissing sound. These issues were suspected to be caused by a defective EGR valve. The gradual onset of symptoms and the nature of the problems pointed towards this component. After consulting a workshop, the diagnosis confirmed the EGR valve was faulty, and replacing it resolved the performance issues.

Thanks. The symptoms emerged gradually over a few weeks. I haven't retrieved the error codes yet. Can a faulty EGR valve really cause so many symptoms?

Yes, a malfunctioning EGR valve can cause a lot of problems. Given the symptoms and gradual appearance, it's probable. You could try cleaning it, but in my experience, you're better off replacing it. I suggest a workshop.

Thanks for the advice. I consulted a workshop. The diagnosis matched our suspicions: the EGR valve was defective. The repair was 355€, but the vehicle's performance is back.

Those symptoms sound familiar. I have a diesel Ulysee too. Did the symptoms appear gradually, or suddenly? Have you checked the error codes? It sounds like the EGR valve.
