Fiesta Brake Fluid Low Pedal Feedback

Hi, I have a 2016 Ford Fiesta with a diesel engine. I've noticed the brake fluid warning light come on. The level is definitely low. I've also experienced some strange feedback from the brake pedal. Any ideas what this could be? I already checked for any visible leaks, but didn't see anything.

Summary of the thread

A 2016 Ford Fiesta owner reported a low brake fluid warning light and unusual brake pedal feedback. Despite no visible leaks, the issue could stem from worn brake pads, which cause the caliper pistons to extend further, using more fluid. The suggested solution was to inspect the brake pads, and upon doing so, it was confirmed that worn brakes were indeed the problem, leading to their replacement and fluid replenishment.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey there! I had something similar happen in my Fiesta, though I can't remember if the year was the same. The low brake fluid and weird pedal feel could mean a few things, but the first thing that comes to my mind is worn brake pads. As they wear down, the pistons in the calipers need to extend further, which uses more brake fluid, thus lowering the level in the reservoir. Do you know the age of your brakes?

Thanks for the quick reply! I am not sure about the brake pads but my car has done 108518 km. Should I be worried about the master cylinder?

108518 km is quite a bit! I would definitely suggest you get your brake pads inspected as soon as possible. It's possible the master cylinder is the problem, but worn pads are the more common cause for these symptoms. Honestly, based on what you're experiencing and the mileage, I'd strongly recommend taking it to a workshop, as it might be getting critical.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to a mechanic, and you were right: worn brakes were the issue. Cost me 480€ to get new pads and a fluid replacement. At least it's sorted now!
