Fiorino Exhaust Smoke and Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Fiat Fiorino with a gasoline engine is experiencing excessive smoke during acceleration and a warning light has appeared. The issue may be linked to a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor, which can provide incorrect data to the car's computer, affecting the fuel mixture and causing smoke. The car is also running rough, reinforcing the likelihood of a sensor problem. It is suggested to have the sensor checked and potentially replaced by a professional workshop to resolve the issue.

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, the car is running rough, especially at lower speeds. So, a faulty sensor could really cause the smoke? I was hoping it wasn't something more serious like a problem with the engine itself. Is there any way to test the sensor, or is it just better to replace it?

Okay, rough running plus smoke points even more to that sensor being the culprit. Listen, you could try testing it with a multimeter, but honestly, exhaust sensors can be tricky. Plus, if it's already throwing a code and causing those symptoms, it's probably gone bad. My advice? Just take it to a workshop. They can confirm the issue and replace the sensor. It'll save you a lot of headaches. I ended up doing the same thing after fiddling with mine for a week, and it fixed the problem immediately.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I was dreading a more serious engine problem. I'll take it to a workshop and have them check the exhaust back pressure sensor. They quoted me around 245€ for the repair, which includes the sensor and labor. Hopefully, that will solve the problem. Thanks again for your help!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my Fiorino – don't remember the year. That smoke, yeah, that's not good. The exhaust back pressure sensor is part of the whole emission control system. It tells the car's computer how much pressure is in the exhaust. If it's faulty, the computer gets bad data, and that can mess with the fuel mixture and cause all sorts of problems, including excessive smoke. Is the car running rough, too?
