Fiorino Inconsistent Brake Pedal Feel

I'm experiencing a strange feedback from the brake pedal on my 2016 Fiat Fiorino with a gasoline engine. It has 126832 km on the clock. I initially suspected low brake fluid, but the level is fine. I also checked the brake rotors and shoes, and they seem okay at first glance. Could this be related to the brake system itself, or perhaps something electrical?

Summary of the thread

The initial problem was an inconsistent brake pedal feel in a 2016 Fiat Fiorino. The issue was suspected to be related to the brake system or possibly an electrical fault. It was suggested that a voltage drop could affect the ABS system, causing unusual pedal feedback. The solution involved checking the electrical system, which revealed a faulty voltage regulator affecting the ABS, and replacing it resolved the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

That's a weird one. When you say 'strange feedback', can you be more specific? Is it spongy, hard, or vibrating? Also, have you noticed any squeaky brakes recently? Sometimes, a voltage drop in the car can mess with the ABS system, causing unusual pedal feel. Is your battery in good condition? What is the voltage reading?

Thanks for the quick response! By strange feedback, I mean it feels somewhat inconsistent - sometimes normal, sometimes a bit resistant. I haven't heard any squeaky brakes, and the car starts fine, so I thought the battery was okay. I have not measured the voltage, how would undervoltage impact the pedal feel?

Okay, inconsistent feel points away from mechanical issues like worn brake shoes directly, but undervoltage can definitely cause havoc. The ABS system relies on a stable voltage to function correctly. If the voltage drops, the ABS might engage erratically, influencing pedal feel. While the car starts, the voltage while driving under load could be the culprit. Given the symptoms, I would strongly recommend getting the electrical system and ABS checked by a workshop. It's probably safest that way with the brake system.

Thanks, that's really helpful! I appreciate the explanation about the ABS system and voltage. I'll take it to a workshop as you suggested. It turned out to be undervoltage indeed, which affected the ABS. The workshop confirmed the electrical issue. They replaced a faulty voltage regulator and the total repair was 240€. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
