Fiorino preheating lamp issue
Summary of the thread
The 2000 Fiat Fiorino with a diesel engine is experiencing issues with the preheating lamp not switching off and the check engine light remaining on, accompanied by smoke during acceleration. The glow plugs have been checked and are fine, suggesting the problem may lie with the preheating control unit or its wiring. A similar case was resolved by replacing a faulty connector at the preheating unit, indicating that addressing the wiring or connections might solve the issue.

Yes, the engine starts fine, even when it's cold. What was the eventual solution in your case? Was it also the control unit, or something else entirely?

I fiddled with it for ages, cleaning contacts, checking grounds. In the end, I gave up and took it to a workshop. They diagnosed a dodgy connection at the preheating unit, slapped on a new connector, and that sorted it. Cost me 95€. Worth it for the peace of mind. Reminded me of chasing gremlins in old Lucas electrics!

Thanks for sharing! Sounds like I'm on the right track with the wiring then. I'll try and locate the defective part and replace the cables. If that doesn't work I'll take it to the shop like you did.

Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my Fiorino. Is the engine starting okay in cold weather? Because that preheating lamp issue is a real head-scratcher.
