Good questions! I hadn’t thought to check for engine RPM-related noise. And no, touching the antenna doesn't seem to make a difference. Where is the signal amplifier located on these things? Is it accessible without dismantling half the dashboard?

These electrical issues can be tricky. Given it's not improving when touched and the errors showing up, I think you may have to check the antenna and connections with a multimeter, or just take it to a workshop to get to the root of the issue. Might save you a headache.

Okay, fair enough. I was hoping to avoid that, but you’re right, I'm chasing my tail. I took it to a shop; turns out, the antenna was defective. Replacement and labor set me back 255€ but at least I can listen to something other than static again!

That sounds frustrating. Is the static constant, or does it change with engine RPM? Does it get better or worse when you touch the antenna or its base? It could be antenna ground, or an issue with the signal amplifier.
