Fiorino Tailgate Hall Sensor Error
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Fiat Fiorino owner experienced a tailgate hall sensor error, causing the tailgate not to open fully. Initial inspection showed no visible damage to the sensor wiring or plug connection. A suggestion was made to check the wire harness at the hinge point, where movement could cause internal wire damage. The issue was resolved by repairing a defective cable or plug connection at a workshop.

Thanks for the tip! I'll check the wire harness more thoroughly. When you say 'where it enters the tailgate,' do you mean right at the hinge point, or closer to the sensor itself? Also, did you end up having to replace the sensor, or was it just a wiring issue for you?

Yes, I meant right at the hinge point. That’s where the most movement occurs. In my case, the fault was indeed the wiring; several strands were broken inside the insulation. However, I would still strongly recommend a professional inspection at a qualified workshop to rule out a defective sensor. This way, you avoid replacing the sensor needlessly.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a local workshop. Turns out, as suspected, it was a defective cable or plug connection, as the error log suggested. The mechanic repaired it for 95€. Now the tailgate is working as it should again!

I had a similar issue on my 2016 Opel Astra, though not exactly the same. The automatic tailgate started acting up, showing similar symptoms. Error codes related to the tailgate sensor appeared. Did you check the wire harness where it enters the tailgate? Sometimes, the constant opening and closing can cause wires to fray or break internally, even if the insulation looks fine from the outside.
