FiveHundred Rain Light Sensor Issue

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2005 Ford FiveHundred with a gasoline engine. It's got about 124744 km on it. The rain-light sensor seems to have gone bonkers. I'm getting an error stored in the error memory, and the automatic wiping mode during rain just isn't working anymore. Also, the automatic headlight control is dead, and the speedometer dimming isn't functioning either. The lights just switch on by themselves sometimes. Anyone else experienced this? Any ideas what to check?

Regarding your Ford FiveHundred's rain-light sensor malfunction, the symptoms you describe – error codes, non-functional automatic wiper and headlight control, speedometer dimming issues, and erratic light activation – do point towards a sensor fault. Have you inspected the windshield area where the sensor is located for any visible obstructions or damage?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't taken a super close look yet. What kind of obstructions or damage should I be specifically looking for? Is there anything I can check myself, or am I better off just taking it to a shop?

It's often the case with the Ford FiveHundred that bubbles can form under the gel pad of the windshield interfering with the light sensor. While a visual inspection is a good start, diagnosing sensor issues definitively often requires specialized equipment. Given the complexity, and the potential involvement of car electronics, I would suggest consulting a qualified workshop.

Alright, thanks for the advice. I had a feeling it was something I couldn't easily fix myself. Took it to the shop, and you were right - bubbles under the sensor gel pad! They replaced the gel pad and recalibrated everything. Cost me 62€. Everything's working fine now.
