Flickering light and weak starting in the Audi A5 Diesel: experiences and tips

Hi guys! I'm driving a 2016 Audi A5 diesel with 53700 km on the clock and I'm having a few issues. My lights are flickering or dimming and the battery seems weak when starting. I suspect this is due to a fault with the vehicle battery sensor. Have any of you had similar experiences? What was it like at the mechanic? Have you also had bad experiences at the garage? Thank you very much for your answers and helpful tips!

Hey, I also drive an Audi - a 2013 A3. I recently had similar symptoms with mine. However, my alternator was dead. It was easy to tell because the battery kept going flat even though I had charged it first. It was a pretty serious problem and not really something you could fix yourself. Needed a new alternator so had to take my car to the garage. Honestly, my experience there was pretty good. The mechanic quickly identified and fixed the problems and my car is now running like new again. I suspect your problem might be similar. I recommend you visit the garage as soon as possible to get it sorted out. Best regards!

Hey, thanks for your answer, it was really helpful! I actually suspected the alternator as well, so it's been confirmed. Can you remember roughly how much you paid for the repair? And has your Audi had any other problems since then? Thanks again. Cheers!

Hey, I'm glad I could help! Well, I can still remember the costs, they were pretty steep. I paid €95 to have the faulty cable repaired. But since the mechanic fixed the fault on the vehicle battery sensor, everything has been running like clockwork. Since then, I haven't noticed any further problems in this direction, so it was money well spent. Keep at it and don't throw in the towel just yet, your Audi will thank you for it. Cheers!

Hey, that actually sounds pretty encouraging that you haven't had any further problems since then and your alternator is running like new again! I hope I have the same luck as you with my garage. I'll be taking my Audi to the garage tomorrow morning to have the alternator checked and possibly replaced. The 95€ should be worth it for me to continue driving without any problems. Thank you for your support and I will report back here how it went. Cheers!
