Fluence diesel engine cutting out low power
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Renault Fluence diesel with 201,265 km is experiencing engine cutouts at idle, reduced power, and an illuminated check engine light. Initial checks of the air filter and MAF sensor did not resolve the issue. The problem is suspected to be related to the fuel system, specifically a defective fuel volume regulator and high pressure pump. The recommended solution is to have these components inspected and repaired by a professional mechanic, as confirmed by a workshop diagnosis.

Interesting! Where exactly is that located, and how would I check it? Is it something I can do myself, or am I looking at a trip to the mechanic? Could a faulty high pressure pump cause the same symptoms, because that's what I'm starting to suspect?

Yes, a defective high pressure pump would explain it all. A faulty high pressure pump will also cause the fuel volume regulator to fail. Unless you have the tools, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop, better safe than sorry. I recall something about 1500€ when mine went kaput.

Thanks a lot! I took it to the shop, and you nailed it – fuel volume regulator defective, caused by a defective high pressure pump. They quoted me 1510€ for the repair. Ouch! But at least I know what's wrong. Really appreciate the help!

FLUENCE

Sounds familiar! I had a similar problem with my Fluence. Check your fuel volume regulator. It's like the conductor of the fuel orchestra – if it's off, the whole thing sounds terrible.
