Fluence diesel excessive smoke

I'm desperate! My 2016 Renault Fluence diesel is giving me headaches. It's got almost 200k km (199389 to be exact). The check engine light is on, power is way down, and it's puffing out smoke like a chimney when I accelerate. I'm guessing it's the crankcase ventilation valve (PCV valve maybe?). Anyone seen this before? The smoke is worrying me.

I had similar symptoms with my Fluence. Smoke, loss of power, the works. Have you checked the crankcase ventilation system thoroughly? A defective PCV can cause all sorts of problems, including increased crankcase pressure, leading to oil leaks and that smoke you're seeing. What does the idle sound like?

Thanks for the quick reply! The idle is a bit rough, now that you mention it. By 'thoroughly,' what exactly do you mean? I'm not super technical, so ELI5 would be great! Is there any way to test the crankcase ventilation?

By thoroughly, I mean inspecting the valve and hoses for any signs of damage or blockage. Unfortunately, without specialized tools, accurately testing the crankcase ventilation system can be difficult. Given the symptoms and mileage, a faulty crankcase ventilation valve is highly probable. I'd advise taking it to a trusted workshop for a proper diagnosis.

Okay, I understand. Thanks for the help! I took it to the shop, and you were spot on – it was the crankcase ventilation valve. Cost me 360€ to get it replaced, but at least the smoke is gone and the engine is running smoothly again!
