Focus Headlight Cleaning System Fault

My 2009 Ford Focus with a gasoline engine has a headlight cleaning system fault. The windshield washer system isn't working either. I've checked the fuse, and that seems fine. I'm thinking maybe it's the pump, or a clogged hose somewhere? Anyone else run into this?

Interesting problem! I had a similar issue with my 2014 Opel Astra a while back. Washer fluid reservoir was full, but nothing was coming out. Turns out it was a faulty relay that controlled both the windshield and headlight washers. Have you tried listening for the pump when you activate the washer? Can you hear it trying to work?

Good shout about the relay! I didn't think of that. I did try to listen for the pump, but honestly, I couldn't hear anything over the engine noise. Where is the relay located in your Astra? Maybe it's in a similar spot on the Focus. Also, any chance the hose between the pump and the nozzles has a leak?

On the Astra, the relay was in the fuse box under the hood. But given your mileage, a leak is also possible if you smell washer fluid. Honestly, at this point, it may be best to take it to a reliable workshop to get the system pressure tested and professionally checked out. Saves a lot of poking around and potential further damage!

Yeah, you're probably right. I'll get it booked in. Sounds like it could be a dodgy connection or a faulty relay, as you suggested. Thanks for your help!
