Ford Everest Brake Light Error

I have a 2011 Ford Everest, diesel engine, with 216861 km on the clock. I'm getting an error stored related to the brake light switch. The brake lights aren't working and I'm also seeing an error message pop up. I've checked the bulbs, and they seem fine. Could a faulty brake light switch really cause all this?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra. Brake lights went out, dash lit up. Have you considered you might be pressing the brake pedal awkwardly? Maybe your foot isn't fully releasing it after pressing.

Interesting thought! I haven't really paid attention to how I press the brake pedal. How could that lead to the 'error stored in memory' and the light failure? Is that like short-circuiting something?

Not exactly short-circuiting, more like confusing the system. The car might think you're constantly slightly braking, which can trigger errors. I would still recommend getting the switch checked at a workshop. Better safe than sorry.

I appreciate the insight! I took it to a shop. Turns out I wasn't releasing the brake pedal fully. The switch got stuck but they managed to fix it on the spot. No parts or labor costs!
