Ford Expedition Anti Theft System Problems

Alright, I'm at my wit's end. My 2001 Ford Expedition with a gasoline engine is throwing codes related to the anti-theft system. The alarm itself is completely non-functional and the computer registers an error. I've been digging around and it looks like the alarm system is coded to activate the optical locking, meaning the turn signals, but it's not doing anything. Has anyone else wrestled with this beast?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my old Saab a few years back. The alarm was acting up, and the error memory was full of anti-theft errors. Was the issue related to an alarm sensor or the alarm control module?

That's interesting. You mentioned the alarm sensor or the alarm control module in your Saab. Do you remember what the specific symptoms were on your car, and how you managed to narrow it down to those components?

Yeah, the Saab's symptoms were almost identical. Random alarm triggers, then eventually, nothing. Given your description and my experience, I'd suggest getting it checked at a workshop. They should be able to properly diagnose the issue and clear the error memory after fixing the alarm system.

Thanks a bunch for the advice! Took it to a local shop, and you were spot on. Turns out the alarm control module was faulty, but the alarm was coded to activate optical locking. They replaced the module, cleared the codes, and recoded the alarm. Cost me about 45€, which I'm happy to pay to get rid of that headache.
