Yeah, now that you mention it, there are temperature fluctuations. It's not consistent though. Where exactly in the exhaust system should I be looking? Or is it something best left to a professional?

Given the temp fluctuations and your symptoms, a faulty heat sensor is a strong possibility. I'd say it's best to get it checked by a workshop. They can pinpoint the exact location of the leak and confirm if it's the sensor before suggesting a sensor replacement.

Thanks for the advice! Turns out you were right on the money. Took it to a workshop, and they found a leak in the exhaust causing the sensor to throw errors. New sensor and exhaust repair cost me 265€. Runs like a dream now!

Sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my Explorer. Check engine light, power loss... was a pain. Any temperature fluctuation when it happens? It could well be related to the exhaust system components.
