Ford F exhaust treatment malfunction

I'm experiencing an exhaust treatment malfunction with my 2004 Ford F, gasoline engine, 66858 km. The check engine light is on, and the engine runs roughly. There's also an exhaust leak and strong odor. I suspect a lambda sensor issue. Anyone seen this?

Hey, I had something similar with my Ford F. Engine light, rough idle, the works. Check your oxygen sensors, especially the one before the catalytic converter. Those can cause all sorts of problems.

Could you say which oxygen sensor was defective in your case and whether it presented the same symptoms as my vehicle?

Yep, definitely the pre-cat O2 sensor. Symptoms sound identical. I'd advise getting it checked at a workshop to be sure, but it's a likely culprit.

A diagnostic test confirmed the defective lambda sensor, as you suggested. The repair, including parts and labor, was 375€. The issue is resolved.
