Thanks. I've visually inspected the wiring and connectors, and they appear intact and properly connected. Did your BMW exhibit any other unusual behavior that might be related?

Not really, beyond what you've described. Given that you've checked the wiring, it does sound like the sensor itself might be faulty. In my case, replacing the sensor resolved the issue completely. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, I'd recommend taking it to a reputable workshop for diagnosis and repair.

I appreciate the advice. I replaced the intake air temperature sensor at a local workshop. The total repair cost was 155€. The engine now runs smoothly, and the error code has cleared. Thanks again for your assistance.

Sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my old BMW 3 Series, although it was a petrol engine. The symptoms were nearly identical – check engine light, sluggish performance, and a fault code pointing to a temperature reading issue. Have you checked the sensor's wiring or connection? Sometimes it's just a loose or corroded connector.
