Ford Ikon Crankshaft Sensor Error

Help! My 2003 Ford Ikon diesel is throwing a 'crankshaft to camshaft reference value' error. The check engine light is on, and it feels like I'm driving with half the engine power. Response is terrible and fuel consumption is definitely up. I've only done 44149 km! Could this be the crank sensor?

Sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my Ford (not sure of the year though). Same engine type? Reduced power and the check engine light. Have you checked the timing chain or belt? Could also be the cam sensor acting up. How old is the sensor? I'd start by looking at those first.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the timing chain myself, not really sure how. The sensor is original as far as I know, so pretty old. How did you figure out what was wrong with yours?

Well, my symptoms were very similar, but it's hard to be certain without proper diagnostics. In my case, it ended up being the crank sensor, like you suspected. I'd really recommend taking it to a workshop to get it checked out properly. Could save you a lot of headache in the long run. But those symptoms do sound a lot like a faulty crank sensor.

Thanks so much for the advice! I took it to a workshop and you were right! They said it was a defective crankshaft sensor, and it cost me 340€ to fix it. Runs like new now!
