Ford Ka Hissing Noise and Fuel Consumption

My 2004 Ford Ka with a gasoline engine has increased fuel consumption and the check engine light is on. There's also a loud hissing sound from the engine bay when I accelerate. It has 100075 km. I think it might be an air intake leak, maybe in the intake hose. Has anyone else had this?

I had the same symptoms on my Ka. Check the vacuum hoses, especially the one from the air filter to the intake manifold. Mine had a split, causing the hissing and the engine light. Check that first, it's a common problem.

Thanks! The vacuum hoses were my first thought. Where was the split? Was it easy to see, or did you have to really look?

It was on the underside of the hose, near the throttle body connection. I only found it by wiggling the hose while the engine was running – the hissing got louder. If you aren't comfortable doing it yourself, take it to a workshop. It's probably a simple fix, but messing with the intake can cause problems if you're not careful.

Thanks for the advice! I'll check the hose more closely. If I can't fix it, I'll go to a technician. I replaced the hose in the workshop, and the repair cost me 100€.
