Ford Maverick MOST Bus Fault

I've got a 2002 Ford Maverick diesel with nearly 180k km on the clock, and I'm wrestling with a MOST bus fault. Symptoms are a dead audio system, nav's gone dark, and the error memory's lit up. Seems like a control unit on the bus has given up. Anyone seen this before?

Summary of the thread

A 2002 Ford Maverick is experiencing a MOST bus fault, resulting in a non-functional audio system and navigation. The issue likely stems from a defective control unit on the bus. Suggested solutions include checking individual control units for damage or loose connections and consulting a professional mechanic to diagnose and isolate the faulty component. Repair costs are estimated at around 1000€.

Ugh, sounds familiar. I had almost the exact same issue with my old Mercedes C-Class a few years back! No tunes, no maps, the works. It was a nightmare trying to diagnose. Did you try checking the individual control units on the MOST bus, like the amplifier or the navigation module, for any signs of water damage or loose connections?

I've given the usual suspects a once-over, but the bus system is a bit of a black box to me. The error memory unfortunately only said 'MOST bus fault', so I don't really know which unit it could be. Was it easy to diagnose in your case?

Easy? HA! No way. Took ages. My mechanic had to isolate each component on the MOST bus, check the optical connections etc. Eventually, it turned out to be a faulty amplifier that fried everything. Honestly, with the Maverick being a bit older, I'd say just take it to a reputable shop with experience in bus systems. You could spend weeks fiddling with it yourself.

Cheers for the insight! I suspected as much. Looks like I'll be booking it in. Workshop confirmed it. Defect in one of the control units. Repair quoted around 1000€. Pricey, but at least it should fix the problem.
