Fortuner Engine Stalling
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Toyota Fortuner diesel is experiencing engine stalling, reduced power, and a check engine light at 74,992 km. Diagnostics indicate a defective fuel volume regulator, potentially due to a high-pressure pump malfunction. A similar issue was resolved by replacing the fuel regulator and further investigating the high-pressure pump. Consulting a workshop for a thorough examination and repair is recommended.

The diagnostic process involved a comprehensive examination of the fuel system, including pressure tests and sensor readings. These pointed towards the high-pressure pump as the likely source of the fuel regulator issue. What was your situation? Did your mechanic mention the high-pressure pump as a potential cause?

My mechanic didn't specifically mention the high-pressure pump at first, but after replacing the fuel regulator didn't fix it, they dug deeper and reckoned the pump was the root cause. Honestly, at that point, I just told them to sort it. Best bet is to get it checked by a workshop.

I consulted a trusted workshop, and their assessment confirmed the defective fuel volume regulator, needing replacement. The total repair cost was 1510€.

Hey, sounds familiar. I've got a Fortuner too, and I had similar issues a while back. Check engine light, stalling, the whole shebang. For me, it turned out to be a faulty fuel regulator. How did you narrow it down to the high-pressure pump?
