Freemont automatic transmission issue
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Fiat Freemont owner reported issues with the automatic transmission, including erratic shifting, a warning light, and emergency mode activation. The problem was suspected to be related to transmission fluid issues, such as low levels or worn-out oil. After consulting a mechanic, the transmission oil was replaced, resolving the shifting problems.

Thanks for the quick reply! It seems to happen randomly, hot or cold. I haven't checked the fluid level myself, to be honest. Where exactly is the dipstick for the transmission fluid on these?

Given the randomness and the symptoms you describe, alongside your lack of experience in finding the dipstick, it might be time to consult a qualified mechanic. It sounds suspiciously like the undervoltage issue that also caused my shifting problems. In my case the oil change and diagnosis set me back 240€.

Okay, I appreciate the advice. I'll take it to a shop and have them check it out. Turns out, it was indeed the transmission oil being worn out. They replaced it, and it's shifting smoothly again! Thanks!

I have a Freemont too, and experienced comparable issues. Does the problem seem to occur more when the car has been running for a while, or is it consistent? Have you checked the transmission fluid level? It might be worth a look before diving into anything major.
