Interesting. The electric motor, you say? Is there any way to test it before I commit to replacing parts? How much did he pay for the repair?

Well, you could try to test it, but honestly, it's kind of a pain. He tried troubleshooting for ages, but in the end, he bit the bullet and took it to a workshop. The error codes pretty much pointed to the motor being the culprit. Eventually, it cost him around 505€, parts and labor included. Better be safe than sorry with brakes, they are more important than your radio! It is best to take it to a professional.

Thank you for the insight. I appreciate you sharing your friend's experience. Based on this, I'll schedule a visit to the workshop to have the electric motor in the brake caliper checked. I'll keep system glitch and brake failure in mind. Vehicle safety is most important.

I've got a Ford Freestyle myself, and I remember a friend having similar troubles with his electronic parking brake. From what he described, and the error lights you're seeing, it sounds less like a simple brake switch and more like the electric motor in the brake caliper might be on its way out. Like a fuse blowing after too much current draw.
