Freestyle NOx Sensor Failure and Exhaust Leak

I have a 2007 Ford Freestyle with a gasoline engine. I am experiencing a NOx sensor failure at 173726 km. The check engine light is on, and the error memory shows an exhaust leak. Is it likely that a defective cable or plug connection is the cause?

Interesting. I had a similar issue with my Freestyle – same symptoms, same check engine light. Did you happen to inspect the sensor's connector? I am just wondering if it is indeed just the cable or the plug connection?

I did check the connector and it appears to be the issue, but the exhaust leak is making me wonder if it is more than just the NOx sensor. Were you also experiencing an exhaust leak when your NOx sensor failed? Does that component have to be replaced?

Ah, the exhaust leak complicates things! I didn't have that, but I'd reckon if you've got both happening, it might be best to get it checked out by a workshop. They can pinpoint the issue. I ended up visiting my local repair shop.

Thanks for the advice! I followed your suggestion and took it to the local repair shop. They confirmed it was indeed the NOx sensor, and they fixed the exhaust leak as well. Total repair cost was 95€. Problem solved!
