Fullback Transmission Issues

Hi, I'm having some serious issues with my 2017 Fiat Fullback (diesel engine). It's done 224930 km. The gearbox is playing up! Basically, the paddle shifters don't work at all now. The gears are slipping and shifting really uncleanly. I'm also getting some nasty grinding noises when it eventually does shift. The paddle shifters are also very slow to respond when they actually do work and last night the gearbox went into emergency mode. I plugged it into a code reader and it has stored an error related to the transmission. From what I've read online, it sounds like it could be the transmission control unit being defective. Has anyone else had similar issues? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Fiat Fullback with a diesel engine is experiencing transmission issues, including non-functional paddle shifters, gear slipping, grinding noises, and slow response, culminating in the gearbox entering emergency mode. The problem is suspected to be a defective transmission control unit, as indicated by stored error codes and similar experiences from others. A visit to a qualified workshop confirmed the diagnosis, leading to the repair of the transmission control unit.

I also own a Fiat Fullback and had very similar symptoms a few months ago. By 'emergency mode', I understand that you mean the car severely limits the available gears and power to protect the transmission; this state is often triggered by the transmission control unit detecting a fault.

Thanks for the reply! Yes, emergency mode is exactly as you described. Was it definitely the transmission control unit with yours then? And did you get similar grinding noises?

Affirmative. The grinding noises, the slipping, the emergency mode and the error code all pointed towards a defective transmission control unit. Given the symptoms you describe, that would also be my primary point of suspicion. I recommend a visit to a qualified workshop to perform a thorough diagnostic procedure of your vehicle's system and assess whether the unit is working correctly. They will likely confirm the diagnosis.

Thanks so much for the insight! I took it to a workshop and they confirmed it was indeed the transmission control unit. Repair cost me around 1000€. Appreciate the help!
